Germany study documents: start with your course and qualifications

This guide concerns study applications in India. The Consular Service Portal questionnaire determines the appropriate study subcategory; it is not a checklist for every German visa.

Which academic records?

For preparatory or bachelor study, the German Missions list 10th and 12th marksheets and records of any semesters already studied in India. For master’s or PhD study, they list the previous degree and semester records.

What else should you prepare?

The published list includes a passport, appropriate language evidence, admission or course confirmation, motivation letter, CV, financial evidence and health insurance. Tuition evidence applies where specified. APS is generally needed for Indian qualifications, with stated exceptions; exempt applicants may need recognition evidence.

Keep the application scope clear

A general language course unrelated to university preparation uses a different route. The portal may request additional information. Do not order a blanket translation or apostille package from this summary; review each document and the receiving authority’s instructions.
